Growing up in England (now in the us) I became knowledgeable about picked onions. My grandmother used to make several jars or pickled onions as well as pickled red cabbage. I became addicted to her onions so much so I would sneak into the pantry to open the jars before they were ready to drink the vinegar. Of course I got caught and chastised for it. Christmas night was the best, formal opening time to compliment the Christmas evening meal. The taste of these onions brought back all those memories. Of course I am now old and still love the taste and flavor, real malt vinegar tangy and a little sweet. The only thing missing is the tangy spicy pickling spices my grandmother used.
